The Fickle Finger of Fate!
Putting all bloopers and funny photos aside for a moment. I want to remember how important the Fickle Finger of Fate has been to our Araches Adventure!!
When I think about it, the Fickle Finger of Fate has definitely had a hand in our being here. What are the chances that Liz would reply to Mike's random email to her back in September last year. What luck she decided to reply! After all, she and Rick had only met Mike & Leanne once for an afternoon in Wanaka. What, then, is the chance Rick & Liz were having dinner with Hubert & Marie on precisely that night. And further that the dinner party conversation was all about the rent of "Le Refuge" for the winter season.
Certainly a key to our ski odyssey has been a Barton! The Barton family were instrumental in our move to Wanaka all those years ago and it seems that our lives continue to be inextricably linked. We are so thrilled that they have been able to share in the adventure that they helped us achieve! Quite fateful, actually!!

Despite the late night with the usual team (Gav, Sue, Ric, Liz) for a rugby and curry night, we managed to get in a couple of hours ski touring today. We have spent an entire winter looking at a particular northerly off-piste slope under one of the chairs linking Morillon to Samoens. And today we decided to give it a go! It was warm and the sun had just started to peep out from the morning fog. Generally, the weather here is quite predictable and slow moving. (In contrast to NZ's wild weather!). But unfortunately, today, just as we skinned up to the slope, a heavy fog rolled in. We got through the run without incident, but it was a "pea-souper" by the time loaded on the chairlift for the ride home!

We have a very full schedule coming up this week. Dinner with Georgina & David Bird (Lucy Sellick's sister & brother-in-law), Vallee Blanche meeting up with Stewart Poon and then 3 days of high mountain ski touring in Italy with Christof. Arrive back for one day and then Dana from Slovakia arrives for one week and finally at the end of next week we go again to Livigno in Italy for the famous telemark festival.
Phew!! Time is just flying by. And boy!...this blog obligation is a heavy burden!!
